Pair of cherubs

Splendid pair of white marble cherubs, finely sculpted and depicted in a mirror-image position. The figures have plump, childlike faces, modeled with remarkable anatomical accuracy, framed by curly hairstyles. Both putti rest on shelves, integrated into the sculpture itself, enriched with an insert of green marble edged in pink marble. This type of sculpture, very widespread in the 17th and 18th centuries, was often created for both decorative and architectural purposes.
