Holy water font
Period: 16th century
Small white marble holy water font with a circular shape, smoothed inside. It features a smooth, regular rim along which a Latin epigraphy runs, with finely and slightly deepened letters in the stone. Below the basin, a refined decoration of gadrooning develops.
Once intended for private devotion, as suggested by its small size and the sober elegance of the whole, over time the holy water font was drilled, probably to be reused as a basin for a small fountain, a testament to those frequent functional adaptations that have allowed many ancient objects to traverse the ages, saving and preserving them.
Thanks to its harmonious shape and compact proportions, it now presents itself as an elegant antique object capable of embellishing domestic environments with the evocation of a classical decorative taste.
