Group of figures with flute player and group of figures with peasant woman
Author : Bernard Keilhau (Helsingør 1624 - Roma1687)
Period: 17th century
The evident stylistic references and comparisons with the best production of Bernhard Keilhau allow us to attribute these magnificent canvases to the hand of the Danish master. A painter of reality, the works of the Roman period depict popular characters, compositions with multiple figures of different ages, children, young people, and the elderly "... with a concrete characteristic, we note that almost all the paintings have certain dimensions: approximately 97 x 133 cm for the compositions with multiple figures." [Bernardo Keilhau known as Monsù Bernardo, M. Heimburger, Rome 1988, p. 117]. The two paintings, probably a figurative cycle, represent a scene of daily life with an allegorical "double entendre" meaning, a typical characteristic of Dutch painters.
Dimensions: canvas 97 x 121 cm - frame 106 x 131 cm
