Maternal love
Author : Franco Bargiggia (Milano 1888 - Sanremo 1966)
Period: 20th century
Franco Bargiggia, the author of this beautiful bronze sculpture, has managed to capture and convey to the observer the infinite love of a mother for her children. In a non-verbal language, but interpretable from the details, one perceives in the pose and in the expression of the mother's face the concern for the future of her children, whom she protects, now, by embracing them.
The sculptor was born in Milan in 1888, graduated from the Brera Academy, and worked for the first few years in the Lombard city before moving to Sanremo for health reasons (where he died in 1966); his works are inspired by expressive research first in the social universe and then in the family one.
This moving work of his is a splendid example.
