Rape of Proserpina

The author of this fine painting is the Genoese painter Stefano Magnasco (1635 - 1672); when he was very young in the workshop of maestro Valerio Castello, he later moved to Rome to study for five years; returned to his homeland Painter already "frank and expert" "had acquired a great name .... ; and many commissions were destined to him "(Soprani, 1674, p.226).
